Questions
What are the parts of a URL?
In https://user:[email protected]:8443/v1/users?page=2#top, the protocol is https:, the credentials are user:pass, the hostname is api.example.com, the port is 8443, the path is /v1/users, the query is ?page=2 and the fragment is #top.
Why is the port empty?
When a URL uses the default port for its protocol (80 for http, 443 for https), browsers leave the port out. The default port is shown in brackets.
Is the fragment sent to the server?
No. Everything after # stays in the browser. Single-page apps often use it for routing, and OAuth uses it to hand tokens back to the page.
