Questions

How do I deploy this?

Save it as app.yaml and run kubectl apply -f app.yaml. Check progress with kubectl rollout status deployment/<name> -n <namespace>.

What is the difference between requests and limits?

Requests are what the scheduler reserves for the pod on a node. Limits are the most it can use. A container that goes over its memory limit is killed (OOMKilled), while going over the CPU limit only slows it down.

Readiness or liveness probe?

Readiness decides whether a pod receives traffic, which matters during startup and deploys. Liveness restarts a pod that is stuck. Keep the liveness check simple so a slow database does not cause restart loops.

Should I put secrets in env?

No. Store them in a Secret and reference them with valueFrom.secretKeyRef or envFrom.secretRef. Values in this manifest are stored in plain text.
