Choose your stack and a few options to get a production-ready Dockerfile with a matching .dockerignore. Compiled apps use multi-stage builds so the final image stays small.

Questions

How do I build and run the image?

Save the file as Dockerfile in your project root, then run docker build -t my-app . and docker run -p 8080:8080 my-app, using your own port.

Why use a multi-stage build?

The first stage has compilers and build tools. The final stage copies only the built app into a small runtime image, which keeps it smaller, faster to pull and with less to attack.

Why run as a non-root user?

If someone breaks into your app, a non-root user limits what they can do inside the container and makes it harder to reach the host.

Why copy the dependency files before the source code?

Docker caches each step. Installing dependencies before copying your code means that step is reused on rebuilds until your dependencies change.
