Questions

Is MD5 safe for passwords?

No. MD5 is fast and has known collisions, so it should not be used for passwords or signatures. Use bcrypt, scrypt or Argon2 for passwords and SHA-256 for integrity checks. MD5 is still fine for spotting accidental file corruption and for cache keys.

Why is my hash different from another tool's?

Usually because of an invisible difference in the input, such as a trailing newline, Windows line endings (\r\n) or a different text encoding. This tool hashes exactly what is in the box, as UTF-8.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Files are read and hashed in your browser and never leave your device.
